Being one of the pre-eminent places for learning Indonesian, BIPA UMM, which has no less than 40 foreign students each year to learn Indonesian language and culture. This interest should be supported by maximum services and facilities. Supporting these goals, BIPA UMM need to provide a variety of activities, one of innovation is improving quality of teaching material to make students improve the quality of language skills. Providing the online learning media is in line with the announcement from the central government to do activities or conduct teaching and learning activities by utilizing online applications.
By the end of this year, one of the BIPA UMM instructors launched the LEKSIKON. LEKSIKON is a digital dictionary designed to contain certain topics with a variety of vocabulary or combination of words. In the latest version, this application provides two languages, Thailand and Indonesian.
"The application facilitate the students to memorize and search vocabulary by a certain topic. Additionally, in this application user only need put one-word topic will automatically be shown in application. It makes students can recognize and remember vocabulary, " said Faizin, the application designer.
At present, LEKSIKON is still in the process of being developed. In the next, this application will also be developed by providing a variety of popular languages that are used throughout the world.
"This application is still available only in the Thai-Indonesian version and we will develop various popular languages that are used throughout the world," continued Faizin.
Not only creating this application, at the beginning of this year, two BIPA UMM lecturers, M. Isnaini and Faizin, also have compiled an electric book published by UMM Press entitled Aku dan Indonesia. This book consists of four skills, namely reading, writing, listening and speaking. These skills book is separated in order to enrich the students’ knowledge by various topics.
"This product is made to support to the government, as outlined in Law number 24 of 2009 and Presidential Regulation number 63 of 2019 about the endeavour internationalize Indonesian. Additionally, this is not only the business of the government but also our duty to spread and provide the best facilities to introduce Indonesian to the world, " said M. Isnaini as the author of the book.
BIPA UMM commits to provide the facilities of soft language diplomacy to increase the number of Indonesian learners in the world.
